eLabFTW

eLabFTW is an open-source software developed by the French company Deltablot, with an active community of users at German universities. By providing an eLabFTW instance centrally operated by the University Library, LMU Munich offers its members a central platform for the digital documentation and management of research data. The free and open-source software can be used across disciplines and facilitates collaborative work within research groups and projects.
 
The service includes the following features and services, among others:
 
  • Digital documentation of experiments and research processes
  • Structured organization through project- or group-specific teams
  • Collaborative work and content sharing within and between teams
  • Secure, centralized, and open-source infrastructure
  • Open Cloning Tool
  • Chemical Editor Tool
  • API interfaces
  • Technical operations and second-level support provided by the LMU Munich University Library

Requirements for using and applying for LMU eLabFTW

All important information on using eLabFTW, as well as instructions, links to training videos, and documentation, are available on the LMU eLabFTW Wiki on Confluence.

Access to Confluence (BayernCollab) is granted after a one-time activation via the “LMU Confluence” tile in your personal user account.

eLabFTW is organized into teams, which can be set up for departments, research groups, or coordinated research projects. Within a team, a designated person, the team admin, handles administrative tasks and provides first-level support.

Team admins can request a new team via the Team Creation Request Form, which is also accessible via the Wiki.

Access and support for LMU eLabFTW

Once you have created a team, you can log in to LMU eLabFTW as a team admin using your LMU user ID and manage your team. For second-level support, team admins should contact the LMU eLabFTW support team via email: elab@ub.lmu.de.

If you are a user who belongs to a team, log in to LMU eLabFTW and select the appropriate team name. Once your account has been validated by the team admin, you can use eLabFTW.

Exchange opportunity about LMU eLabFTW

The eLabFTW Matrix Element Chat allows you to interact with other eLabFTW users at LMU and can be used to discuss questions about eLabFTW or suggest new features.
 

Migration to LMU eLabFTW

If your group is already using eLabFTW or another electronic lab journal and is interested in switching to LMU eLabFTW, please contact elab@ub.lmu.de.
