NFDI@LMU

The National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) is a project funded by both the federal and state governments. Since 2020, a total of 26 consortia have been active in developing joint strategies, services and standards in the field of research data management (RDM) through the NFDI. LMU is also significantly involved in five consortia as a co-applicant. In addition, LMU researchers are participants in numerous other consortia.

BERD@NFDI

NFDI for business administration, economics and related data.

Consortium funded since 2021

Role of LMU: Co-applicant

Short description: “BERD@NFDI is dedicated to building a powerful platform for the collection, (pre-)processing, analysis and storage of economic and related data. The aim is to enable the integrated management of algorithms and data throughout the entire research cycle. A particular focus is on unstructured data, such as video, image, audio, text or mobile data as well as big data.” (Source)

DAPHNE4NFDI

Data from photon and neutron experiments

Consortium funded since 2021

Role of the LMU: Co-applicant

Short description: “DAPHNE4NFDI (Data from Photon and Neutron Experiments) establishes an open and FAIR infrastructure for research data management relating to research with photons at synchrotron radiation sources and neutrons. This is a multifaceted field of research that can only be conducted at large research facilities. Synchrotron light and neutrons allow unique insights into matter as well as biological, chemical and physical processes. The findings are used to develop urgently needed technologies that can contribute to solving the current problems of our society.” (Source)

Mathematical Research Data Initiative

Consortium funded since 2021

Role of the LMU: Co-applicant

Short description: “Motivated by the needs and requirements of both mathematical research itself and scientific disciplines that use mathematics, the NFDI consortium MaRDI (Mathematical Research Data Initiative) aims to develop and establish standards and services for the handling of mathematical research data.” (Source)

PUNCH4NFDI

Particles, universe, nuclei and hadrons for the NFDI

Consortium funded since 2021

Role of the LMU: Co-applicant

Short description: “PUNCH4NFDI combines the data management expertise of particle physics, astroparticle physics, hadron and nuclear physics, and astronomy. The consortium can draw on decades of experience from its communities, particularly in the area of scalable solutions for very large data volumes in heterogeneous environments, for many thousands of users and with ‘open data’. PUNCH4NFDI aims to bundle and further develop the existing, successful but often isolated solutions.” (Source)

NFDIxCS

National Research Data Infrastructure for and with Computer Science

Consortium funded since 2023

Role of the LMU: Co-Applicant

Short description: “The core goal of NFDIxCS is to identify, define and ultimately deploy services for storing complex domain-specific data objects from the whole breadth of the computer sciences. This includes the production of reusable data objects that contain not only the various types of computer science data but also the associated metadata, as well as the corresponding software, context and execution information in a standardized form. These data objects can be of any size and structure and include various qualities.” (Source)
